Effective Tick Control for Connecticut Properties

Ticks are a serious concern in Connecticut, especially during the warmer months when they thrive in wooded areas, tall grasses, and shady parts of your lawn. Some species—like the blacklegged tick—can carry Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and babesiosis, putting your family and pets at risk.

Our Approach to Tick Control

At Scenic Landscaping & Property Maintenance, we offer two types of treatments:

    • Standard barrier treatment – Uses a synthetically derived formula, originally based on natural compounds, for strong knockdown and long-lasting protection. This option offers the best balance of effectiveness and residual coverage.
    • All-natural treatment – Made with cedarwood oil and a natural sticking agent. It's a great alternative for clients who prefer a natural approach, but it may require more frequent applications to stay effective.

We also recommend landscaping improvements that reduce tick habitat, such as:

    • Trimming overgrown shrubs and grasses
    • Removing leaf litter and yard debris
    • Creating sunlit buffer zones between lawns and wooded areas

With a combination of targeted treatments and smart landscape maintenance, you can enjoy your outdoor space with fewer worries.

Scenic Landscaping & Property Maintenance is a full-service landscaping company that also offers tick control as part of our ongoing property maintenance services. We’re based in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, and serve homeowners throughout Hartford County, including Berlin, Cromwell, Glastonbury, Newington, West Hartford, and Wethersfield. Whether you’re trying to protect your family and pets from tick-borne illnesses or just want to feel more comfortable spending time in your yard, our tick control treatments can help. We offer both synthetic and all-natural applications, along with habitat-focused strategies to help reduce tick activity around your home.

How Tick Control Works

Our tick control process is designed to target ticks where they live, breed, and wait for hosts. Here’s how it works:

1. Property Inspection

We start by walking your property to identify areas where ticks are most likely to hide—along fence lines, wooded edges, tall grass, leaf piles, and shaded landscaping beds. This helps us create a focused treatment plan that targets tick-prone zones without over-applying product.

2. Barrier Treatment Application

We apply a barrier treatment around the perimeter of your lawn and in key hotspots where ticks are known to nest and travel. This creates a treated zone that kills ticks on contact and offers residual protection for several weeks.

      • Our standard product is a synthetically derived solution, originally based on natural compounds. It provides strong knockdown and lingers long enough to protect between treatments.
      • If you prefer a 100% natural approach, we offer cedarwood oil-based treatments. These are gentler but may need more frequent applications to stay effective.

3. Ongoing Maintenance

For best results, tick control should be applied on a recurring basis throughout the tick season, typically from early spring through fall. We offer routine scheduling to keep your yard protected with minimal hassle.

Questions About Tick Control?

If you have questions about our Tick control services they are probably answered here

Ticks are very common in Connecticut, especially from early spring through late fall. The blacklegged tick (commonly called the deer tick) is one of the most concerning, as it can transmit Lyme disease and other illnesses to humans and pets.

We recommend starting tick control treatments in early spring before nymph-stage ticks become active. Regular treatments continue through summer and into the fall to keep populations down during peak activity.

Ticks prefer shady, moist areas. Common spots include the edges of woodlines, under leaf litter, tall grass, stone walls, brush piles, and around foundations or fences with overgrown vegetation.

Most clients benefit from applications every 3–4 weeks during tick season. Synthetic treatments provide longer-lasting protection, while all-natural options may need to be applied more frequently.

Yes. We offer an all-natural cedarwood oil-based treatment with a natural surfactant to help it adhere to plants. While it’s a safer choice for some families, it may not last as long as synthetic options and usually requires more frequent applications.

Once the product has dried—typically within 30–60 minutes—it’s safe for kids and pets to return to treated areas. We’ll give you clear guidance after each visit.

Tick control is most effective when done consistently each season. Skipping a year often leads to a noticeable increase in tick activity.

After receiving multiple quotes and meeting with several contractors, we decided to use Scenic to replace our patio and add a Cobblestone border with stone fill. They provided a timeline for the work and arrived promptly, cleaning-up each day, and communicating throughout the process. Our neighbors (many, since we are in a condo) commented about how meticulous and professional the team was. In fact, several members of the Board even wished to seek a bid to have them handle our landscaping! They couldn't believe how thorough the team was. I even noticed the team leafblowing the grass where they had driven their trucks in order for it to stand back up again and look untouched. We look forward to reaching out for future work and possibly sealing our patio in the spring.
